IIT Madras offers a robust scholarship program aimed at supporting students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. These scholarships ensure that financial barriers do not hinder meritorious students from accessing world-class education. The institute offers both government and institute-funded scholarships, including merit-based, need-based, and category-specific financial aid.

One of the most popular schemes is the Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship, available to students from economically weaker sections with a family income below ₹4.5 lakh per annum. This scholarship offers a monthly stipend and tuition fee waiver. Additionally, SC/ST students are eligible for fee waivers and other benefits under centrally funded schemes. Other scholarships include the Institute Free Studentship, Pratibha Scholarship (for M.Sc students), and various endowment scholarships sponsored by alumni and corporate partners.

For research scholars, IIT Madras provides Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowships (SRF), offering financial support and stipends during the research period.
