Admissions at IIT Madras are conducted through nationally recognized entrance examinations for various academic programs. For undergraduate courses like B.Tech, students must qualify the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced after clearing JEE Main. Only top-ranking candidates in JEE Advanced are granted admission through centralized JoSAA counseling.

For postgraduate programs such as M.Tech and MA, admission is primarily based on scores obtained in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). For M.Sc courses, students must appear for the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. Eligibility criteria vary by program. For B.Tech, candidates should have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and secured a high rank in JEE Advanced. For M.Tech, a relevant bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology and a valid GATE score are required. MBA candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 60% marks and a valid CAT score. For MA and M.Sc programs, relevant undergraduate degrees and qualifying entrance exams are necessary.

The admission process is transparent and merit-based, with reservations in place for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, and PwD categories as per government norms.
