St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi has opened admissions for both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs for the year 2022. Students interested in PG courses must note that the last date to apply was October 15, 2022. The college has also published the merit list for the MA in English program. In addition to this, the first provisional selection lists for PG courses across Arts, Science, and Commerce streams have been released. For undergraduate applicants, the second round of the cutoff list for 2022 is now available. The college has also shared supplementary final provisional selection lists for B.Sc. Chemistry and B.Sc. Physics courses.
Founded on July 3, 1944, St. Xavier’s College Ranchi—often referred to as SXC Ranchi—is a Christian minority institution managed by the Ranchi Jesuit Province of the Society of Jesus. It was established to meet the educational needs of the region and is officially registered under the name ‘Xaviers Ranchi’ as per the Registration Act XXI of 1860.
Initially, the college was affiliated with Patna University, followed by Bihar University from 1950 to 1960. Currently, it operates under Ranchi University. St. Xavier’s is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has earned an ‘A’ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It was granted autonomous status in 2005 and was recognised as a ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ in 2006.
The college offers a wide variety of programs—more than 30 at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These include courses in arts, science, commerce, business administration, vocational studies, and education. As a Jesuit institution, it gives special attention to Christian minorities as well as socially and economically disadvantaged communities like SC, ST, and OBC groups. It also supports students through various scholarship options. Spread over nearly 30 acres, the campus includes a library, hostels, sports areas, and well-equipped laboratories, offering a comfortable and resource-rich environment for learning.
