The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is one of the most respected engineering colleges in India. It is located in Roorkee, a peaceful town in the state of Uttarakhand. The college started in the year 1847 as Thomason College of Civil Engineering. Later, in 1949, it became the University of Roorkee and then was renamed as IIT Roorkee in 2001.
