National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur is a centrally funded technical institution established in 2010. Recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India, it is located in the scenic region of Lamphelpat, Imphal. The institute was founded with the vision to offer quality technical education and to foster innovation and research in the northeastern part of the country.
Despite being relatively new compared to older NITs, NIT Manipur has shown rapid academic progress and infrastructural development. It operates from a sprawling permanent campus that spans over 300 acres and is equipped with modern academic blocks, laboratories, hostels, and recreational facilities.
NIT Manipur offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across engineering, science, and humanities disciplines. It has a well-qualified faculty and maintains an impressive student-to-teacher ratio. The institute encourages research and innovation, providing students with access to advanced laboratories, project funding, and collaboration opportunities with reputed industries and research bodies.
NIT Manipur has consistently ranked in the 100–150 band in the NIRF rankings for engineering colleges. The institute focuses not only on academics but also on co-curricular development through various clubs, fests, and student-run societies. Events like the annual cultural and technical fest “OUGRI” are popular among students.
With a growing reputation, national-level placements, and central government support, NIT Manipur stands out as a promising destination for students looking to pursue quality technical education in a peaceful and culturally rich environment.
